A Short Note on Gharana
Source of the style is manifested with
infulence and inspiration of Mahari (Dev Dashi) tradition.
With exposure for more than 30 years to
different Gharanna of Odissi dance, such as, Gotipua gharana of Lt. Deb
Prasad Das, innovative style of Padma Bhusan Kelu Charan Mohapatra, Mahari
Gharanna of Padma Sri Pankaj Charan Das and in addition to specific body
gesture transcribed by Bio-Mechanic principle the style has been expanded
and suplimented by me. I got advantage of enriching my style being the
direct disciple of all the gurus named above and exposures to Hindustani
Vocal, Sitar and Chau Dance.
The main characteristic of this style is
the implication of Bhramaris to all the link of the body guiding all motion
by circular movement. It combines grace with vigour with several body
deflection torso movement and exaggerated bends. The exeggerated bends in
this school are almost entirely dictated by articulated Udvahita movements
which is full of smooth transition from one body deflection to other, which
adopts the Bio-Mechanical principles of body movement for perfect balancing
of the body.
